Aging in Montclair presents: Considering What’s Next: (Re)Defining Retirement with Optimism and Resilience

As part of the Montclair Bounce Festival, Aging in Montclair and The North/Central New Jersey Chapter of the Transition Network will present “Considering What’s Next: (Re)Defining Retirement with Optimism and Resilience at the AIM Hub, Salvation Army Building, 13 Trinity Place, Montclair on June 6 at 7 pm, featuring life coach and author, Rosemary Byrne.

This program will help those “50 and forward” to define and design this stage of our lives. Is traditional retirement in our future? How do we plan to combine and balance work, life and leisure? How do we determine what we want next and the best ways to achieve it?

Rosemary Byrne is a lawyer turned life coach and the chapter co-chair of the Transition Network of NJ. An NYU-trained and certified personal and retirement coach, Ms. Byrne’s clients are seeking to navigate career and life changes as they approach the next chapters of their life journey. She is a frequent speaker at retirement, life planning and career transition seminars. A co-author of No Winner Ever Got There Without a Coach, her articles on life planning have appeared in numerous professional journals.

The Transition Network (TTN) is a vibrant national membership organization that supports women “50 and forward” facing all kinds of transitions, e.g. from employee to entrepreneur, volunteer or retiree; active parent to empty nester; family member to caregiver.  TTN programs help women inspire and support each other as they embrace the changes to come.

Aging in Montclair (AIM) is a grassroots advocacy organization of over 500 members which was founded in 2015 to address the needs of older residents of the Montclair area. AIM advocates for improvements in areas such as housing and transportation options which are vital for successfully aging in place. In addition to these efforts, AIM also provides a range of educational, social and support opportunities for its members and the community at large.

This presentation is free and open to the public.

WE ARE JOY! Kundalini Yoga: Simple Yogic practices for finding our inner happy place.

  • 127 Valley Road Montclair, NJ, 07042 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

At Montclair Kundalini Yoga, we believe that happiness is our birthright and our natural state of being. The problem is that sometimes life disrupts that natural state or our own minds run amok with stress and suffering. With simple yoga, breath, and meditative techniques, we can always recalibrate and return to joy -- return to ease. Some of us have gotten so used to stress as a baseline that we don't even remember that we ARE joy. The wonderful, empowering thing about yoga is that we learn that we can always return to our essence. We'd love to share that with you. Join us!

Book talk: "50 After 50"

  • First Congregational Church of Montclair (map)

When Maria Leonard Olsen turned 50, her gift to herself was to go on a crusade to make the most of whatever time she had left. She set out to do 50 new things that were significant, at least to her. The list spanned physical challenges, adventure travel, and lifestyle changes. Each taught her something about herself and about how she wanted to lead the next years of her life to come.

Readers will hear about Maria’s adventures and the rewards of each. Accomplishing new things, learning new skills, deepening personal and spiritual relationships, and seeking out challenges will add the spice to a life that may feel repetitive, insignificant, inauthentic, or just plain boring.
