Labyrinth walk

  • First Congregational Church of Montclair (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The entire community is invited to walk the sacred labyrinth at First Congregational Church of Montclair as a form of meditation and centering prayer. Our labyrinth is set right in the center of our beautiful, neo-gothic sanctuary and is a replica of the one in Chartres Cathedral in France (just a bit smaller). A labyrinth walk is a way of opening ourselves up to listen to our souls in a deep and transformative way. There are no special skills needed -- just walk and let the movement and meditative silence deepen your awareness of God's presence.

WE ARE JOY! Kundalini Yoga: Simple Yogic practices for finding our inner happy place.

  • 127 Valley Road Montclair, NJ, 07042 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

At Montclair Kundalini Yoga, we believe that happiness is our birthright and our natural state of being. The problem is that sometimes life disrupts that natural state or our own minds run amok with stress and suffering. With simple yoga, breath, and meditative techniques, we can always recalibrate and return to joy -- return to ease. Some of us have gotten so used to stress as a baseline that we don't even remember that we ARE joy. The wonderful, empowering thing about yoga is that we learn that we can always return to our essence. We'd love to share that with you. Join us!

Qoya: A Movement Class for Women

Qoya is based on the idea through movement; we remember our essence is wise, wild and free.

Wise - Calling on the wisdom of yoga

Wild - Evoking our creativity and authentic expression through dance

Free - Expanding our capacity to actually feel good in our body

Through movement, we remember those things that can never be put into words.

In Qoya movement, there is no way you can do it wrong and the way you know you are doing it right is that it feels good to you, it feels true. Qoya is designed to help you remember the physical sensation of truth in your body and reclaim your inner knowing, intuition and instincts so that you let that feeling be north on your compass & let your body guide you on your soul's journey.

When Maria Leonard Olsen turned 50, her gift to herself was to go on a crusade to make the most of whatever time she had left. She set out to do 50 new things that were significant, at least to her. The list spanned physical challenges, adventure travel, and lifestyle changes. Each taught her something about herself and about how she wanted to lead the next years of her life to come.

Readers will hear about Maria’s adventures and the rewards of each. Accomplishing new things, learning new skills, deepening personal and spiritual relationships, and seeking out challenges will add the spice to a life that may feel repetitive, insignificant, inauthentic, or just plain boring.

Gallery 491 exhibit opening

Gallery491 is excited to welcome Rachael Grochowski and announce the opening of her show MOMENTS. Rachael is a partner and friend of the Bravitas Group and she and her firm, RHG A + D, designed the splendid interiors for Vault491.

Constant exploration and experimentation fuel Rachael’s creative work, from her painting and sculpture to her furniture designs and hand sewn art. Her pieces are physical and sensory, combining a love of texture and an unexpected use of materials, as in her wire and torn paper art or her work involving recycled clothing fused with building supplies. Throughout her art, Rachael also invites the viewer to experience her own meditative moments or unfiltered emotions: a collection of small drawings are from a notebook Rachael carried for a year, as she paused to record, reflect, and discharge energy. Paintings that seem off balance can become balanced upon further contemplation; other works are an explosion of motion, color, and texture or evoke the layers of our life experiences. Her work with wool felt is at once clean cut and organic, with stitching inspired by the wild grasses of the Midwest.
