The 5th Boomerang Bags Sewing Bee will take place in the 2nd floor community room at the Cornerstone Montclair building at 198 Bellevue Ave. No sewing experience necessary and all ages are welcome. If you don’t sew there are plenty of other tasks to help with. Drop in for as long as you like! This event is free. Sewing bees are fun!
What are Boomerang Bags?
Boomerang Bags is a community-driven initiative tackling plastic pollution at the grassroots level. Montclair is a designated Boomerang Bags community and we are seeking volunteers to make reusable Boomerang Bags, help spread the word, donate material, and give us encouragement!
Where do I go?
The Cornerstone Montclair building is located at 198 Bellevue Ave in Upper Montclair. There is a small parking lot and also street parking available. Take the stairs to the second floor community room. Follow the signs!
What should I bring?
If you have a sewing machine or serger, please bring them! Also needed are irons, ironing boards, thread, cutting boards, cutting tools, scissors, pins, and fabric donations. If you don't have any of these things you are still very welcome, there is plenty to do for everyone! Bring your good energy!
What will you do with the Boomerang Bags after we make them?
The bags we make will be shared with the Montclair community as a contribution toward fostering sustainable practices and reducing plastic bag use. We ask for a suggested donation of $5 per bag and the proceeds will go towards our project expenses. If we make enough bags at our Sewing Bee, volunteers are welcome to have one as a thank you for helping to make them!
This project is being organized by the Montclair Creative Reuse group.
